The requisition of Leader, Sense of Responsibility
In the movie <Special Citizen>, the advisor of the Seoul mayor who is the main character in the movie picked up a woman reporter and questioned a word to her. "What do you think of politics?" I do not remember her whole answer, but I remember that she said, "politics takes responsibility for the voters".
I recalled that and thought that if not only a leader of a city and also all politicians and leaders had to be held accountable to voters, people would have less of a suffering in this country. But what politicians do not have responsibility? However, it is a question we must ask, which leaders are more responsible.
If so, how does human responsibility play out? What is the fundamental motive? I wanted to see it through Jesus, the most responsible leader in the world
Compassion, the motive power of sense of responsibility
The Bible tells the story of Jesus raising miracles, with seven loaves of bread and two small fishes, feeding four thousand men, except for women and children, this story usually focuses on the miracles that Jesus raised but I would like to see Jesus' leadership here. Verse 32 says, "Jesus called his disciples and said, “I have compassion on the people. They have been with me for three days, and there is nothing to eat.”
Jesus felt compassion for the people who followed him. The people who followed Jesus for three days were hungry and had nothing to eat. Jesus was heartbroken that they were hungry. So He felt deeply responsible. I think that from this compassion, the responsibility as the essential requirement of leaders came out.
We often think of the source of leadership as authority or power. But the power of Jesus' leadership was not power. But it was a compassion, He wanted to take care of them.
We tend to regard compassion as inferior to power, because we are good at dichotomous thinking. This is an abomination of dichotomous thinking. Dichotomous thinking divides everything into two and makes one look like a worthy, honorable, and the other look like inferior or worthless. For example, consider the spirit as worth, the material as worthless, the inner as important, and the outer as unimportant. This also applies to gender relations. Women seem to be inferior to men, and compared to adults, children are inferior, and compared to the West, the Orient. In the mind that we want to divide into dichotomy in us, this upper and lower division is inherent. So pitying mind, caring, etc., are regarded as feminine and have been ignored as being inferior to masculine ones.
But Jesus, our leader, has pity on us. The motive of all of Jesus' actions were compassionate mind. Jesus did not leave the people who had been starving for three days irresponsible. He said that he would not leave them starve, and eventually gave a miracle. Jesus' leadership is derived from emotions like compassion.
If the leaders are only willing to govern and can not read the hearts of the followers, if they do not sympathize with their follower’s hearts, they will no longer be leaders. Nowadays, a leader of an organization regards people as a part of a machine and regards them as means of utilization. Some leaders think they are qualified to get anything from their organization. These leaders are proud people. A sure sign that pride is rooted in the lives of leaders is that they no longer have pity on the people below. They can not sympathize with the hearts of the people below.
If you are a true leader, you will think again that you have to take care of followers and have a commitment to take your life. Not only did Jesus feel compassion for the followers and took charge of them, but later he gave his life. Jesus wanted to be responsible for their hunger.
