In one book I read that a man named Johannes K. Schlageter wrote the humanistic definition of trust:
Trust is basically a positive but complexly diverse perspective on the relationship between oneself and others and the world. Trust is engraved in consciousness when risks, problems, and crises arise, especially in relationships with others, and are overcome meaningfully. In front of this trust, there is a prototype of confidence, that is, naturally formed afterwards, which first occurred unconsciously from the beginning of a relationship with a trusted neighbor, especially a mother, in infancy. This original trust has a basic ability of unconsciously trustworthy trust, which can be expressed as confidence in oneself, trust in value, trust in existence, and religious transcendent trust.
According to this logic, childhood trust affects the formation of self - esteem, especially in relation to parents (mother), and affects religion that trusts God. This is an original trust that is formed unconsciously according to the author's expression. Therefore, the roots of whether or not we can trust God with religion are already planted from infancy.
I do not dispute this theory. But I would like to say that this theory does not apply to everyone who believes in God. Because there was a sister who had begun to believe in God in an unfavorable environment where there was no parents. She went to theology college and became a church evangelist. I’ve never seen the one who had good faith as her, she always spoke of God. She has always called God Father, and she really spoke of God as having a personal father. She said that her mother had already died in her infancy and that her father was a wanderer and did not care for her. She looked after her younger sister and lived only with her without parents. Her unfortunate circumstances did not get any better. When it rained, the house was drenched, and the dad returned home and requested money, Even though he knew she had little money. Nevertheless, she has never lost a smile, never lost hope, and never once said it was hard. She always said that Father (here Heavenly Father) would owe her a living. I was surprised at her trust of Heavenly Father. I was also a Christian, but there was a desperate period when I lost faith in God, gave up prayer, and filled with all kinds of negative words and grudges.
The Bible says that God is the one who takes care of orphans. For those who have faith, the trust relationship and the attachment relationship formed by the parents of the body may not be important. For them, the experience of religion is to acquire God as a personal Father, beyond the fleshly parents. Therefore, even if the child's original trust or unconscious trust is weak, they hold strongly God and trust in God because of this experience.
I actually saw a lot of these kinds of people. I saw a person who had a bad relationship with his parents, an abusive experience, and an environment that was disadvantageous. It was impossible to separate God from them. It is the consciousness that they are the children of God to restore their only self-esteem and give them strength to live. The religious power was not short-sighted either. Even though the hard work continued, their trust in God was strengthened and not weakened. Rather, the visible life of the faith has matured. I could see that the trust of God was constantly affecting their lives.
There is something incomprehensible and transcendent that can not be explained psychologically, humanly, in relation to God and trust. Religious strength, the experience of a personal encounter with Heavenly Father, seems to require something beyond humanities to study this. The world of faith is mysterious. I think.
